Summery of Vee Speers and Perou and my interpretations.

A Summery Of Vee Speers

Vee Speers' style is to create beautiful yet disturbing images but leaving a space for the viewer to enter her world. Her portraits combine elements which evoke conflicting emotions that can surprise you but telling a story that is somewhere between fantasy and reality as well as the obvious and the unexpected.
Vee's technique is to try to go for plain backgrounds to make the models in the photographs stand out and make sure your attention is on the models in the photograph and not the background. If the background isn't plain, then the model is up close and anything that could be distracting are quite far in the distance of the background. She wants you to look at the model and not the background.
One of her other techniques is to put the model in the centre of the image so it grabs your attention straight away. She also either has a plain background and a more colourful outfit for her model or if the photo is black and white, she makes sure the light is directed on the object or person she wants you to look at as if one part of the photograph is lighter than the other then you are more likely to look at that bit than the darker parts.
There are meanings behind all of her photographs:
Thirteen is a collection of images she photographed of her daughter as she went through pains and independence. It's showing the transformation from a child to a young women and the different aspects that you go through.
The Birthday Party shows that you can be who and what you want, even if it is just for a few hours through dressing up. It's also showing that through dressing up and playing, children can express the trauma, issues or pain they've been or are going through. Vee has made you realise private and sensitive information about yourself just by looking at these pictures.
Immortal, it's showing that anyone, even the most young and/or beautiful people, can look, be and feel isolated, exposed, vulneable, trapped, distant, on guard, defiant and filled with fears and insecurities.
Parisians is about people being themselves and that you shouldn't judge others even if they are different.
Bordello is showing that there can be beauty anywhere even if beauty doesn't seem to be there at all.

Here are my interpretations of Vee Speers' work

Summery Of Perou

Perou's style is to capture images of British fashion, music and portraits.
His technique is using either bright backgrounds with a plain focal point or a plain background with a colourful focal point. Although most of his photographs do have colourful focal points and plain backgrounds. He also uses a lot of contrasting colours to produce eye catching images.
His photos are extremely good quality. They are all very clear and are focused so everything is clear in the photograph.
I don't believe his photos have a story but I do think that behind each celebrity's photograph, there is a story about them that is unknown to the public or maybe even their friends and family. But whether they have a story behind them or not, all his images are very good quality, interesting to look at and catch your eye when you look at them.

Here are my interpretations of Perou's work

Vee Speers Interpretation

These are some photos I have taken as Vee Speers interpretation. I think that they've gone well but there is room for improvement. I could have taken more and I think that the clothes and items used (to replace the items Vee Speers used) could be improved by using things that look more like Vee Speers' photos.

Learning How To Research Effectively

John Hedgecoe

Composition
Composition is the placement or arrangement of visual elements or ingredients in a work of art. The term composition means 'putting together' and can apply to any work of art.
The composition of this photo is very good as the layout of the photo has been carefully thought about. This photo is cut into three parts. The two end parts are a mirror of each other but the centre is the main focus of the imagine.
This is a good website for tips and help on composition: http://photofocus.com/2009/11/30/25-photo-composition-tips

The focal point in this image is the main's face. How his hands are placed draw your attention to his face. Here, John Hedgecoe wants you to look and focus on his face instead of any other part of the photo.
The lighting is mainly on the man's face and body and although the photo is black and white, some areas are darker than others which directs your attention to the lighter parts because of the lighting.
His hands are more sharp and in focus than any other part of the photo because they are closer to the lens but then his hands to focus your attention on his face which is further away from the lens.

 Perou

Focal Point
Focal point is the exact point at which the camera is focused at maximum sharpness.
In this photo, the girl is the main focus as the photo was for a fashion shoot. Her outfit is more in focus than any other part of hte photo and because of the background colour and her outfit colour, she stands out which makes her more bold in the photo.
I think this website is good for help and tips on focal point: http://digital-photography-school.com/using-focal-points-in-photography

This photo's layout has been thought out carefully as the model is in the centre of the photo which makes her stand out and the main focus as if you separate the photo into three sections, she would be in the centre.
The lighting here is shinning down on the model which is lighting up her hair and the top of the outfit. Also, her shadow is darkening the background where she is standing which also helps her stand out. Perou clearly wants you to look at her outfit here.
The model is in sharp focus whereas the background looks like its blurred which means it isnt in focus.

Vee Speers

Lighting
Lighting in photography is the distribution of light on an object or person.
In this photo, the light is shining on the the top half of the photo, making the top of the background lighter and the model stand out more.
This website is particularly good for use of lighting; http:www.picturecorrect.com/tips/use-of-light-in-photography/

The layout of the photo is good and as you can see, Vee Speers has tried hard to set it up and get the background to fit the outfit and model.
The model is the main focus here and because of the background, her and her outfit stand out as they are both lighter or darker than the background.
The model is in sharp focus and because the background isn't, that helps to outline the model.

Annie Leibovitz

Depth Of Field
Depth of field is the amount of distance between the nearest and farthest object that appear in sharp focus in a photograph.
The whole photo is in sharp focus but the models do stand out against the background due to their outfits.
This website is good for help on depth of field: http:www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/fototech/htmls/depth/html

In this photo, the light is more focused on the model in blue as you can see the light shining on her and her outfit.
The two models are are the main focal point because of their outfits even if the background is quite busy.
The layout is very clever in the photo as I think Annie Liebovitz has dressed up the models and used a green sheet as the background because then you can put any image you want as the background using a computer once the image is taken.

Perou

Ralph John Perou is a British fashion, portrait and music photographer who has apppeared as a judge for Make Me A Supermodel UK and on the american version. He was also a part of the t.v series Dirty Sexy Things on the British network E4. He also photographed models to be put in his exhibition at the end of the series.

I like Perou's photography as he takes unusual and unique photos. They are very creative. I like how they are all different for each person/group.
His photography has no set theme and depending on the type of photography he;s going, how it is set up and how the picture is taken is differently brilliant. This is showing he is a very skilled photographer.

First Analysis

This image is by Perou: He is a British photographer. He is becoming famous and is the photographer on the t.v series Dirty Sexy Things. He has a Facebook and Flickr page as well as his own website - He shares his work in lots of places but these are the main ones. This image is a picture of Tom Daley, the Olympic diver for team GB, taken by Perou.

This is one of the few pictures Perou took of Tom Daley in the 21st century.

I think that Tom is the focal point of the image and the water behind him helps to catch you eye and make him stand out more.

I really like how the photo is set up as the water helps to catch your eye. We can clearly see who the model is and what they're trying to show which is that he is involved in a water event which is diving in his case.
